Veszprém is one of Hungary’s oldest cities, often referred to as the “City of Queens.” Located just a few kilometers from the northern shore of Lake Balaton, the town welcomes visitors with a rich historical heritage, an atmospheric city center, and numerous family program opportunities. If you arrive by car, it is also worth checking the parking options in advance.

Veszprém Castle District

The city’s best-known attraction is the Castle District, one of Hungary’s most significant historic city centers. Within the castle area are St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Gizella Chapel, the Archbishop’s Palace, and numerous listed historic buildings. From several points in the castle, there are wonderful views of the city and the surrounding valleys.

Fire Tower

The Fire Tower of Veszprém is one of the city’s symbols. Located near Óváros Square, the structure also functions as a lookout tower, offering visitors an excellent panorama. The area around the tower is one of the most popular spots for walks in the city center.

Veszprém Valley and the Séd Stream

Veszprém Valley is one of the city’s most beautiful natural areas. The promenade along the Séd Stream connects the Castle District, the Veszprém Zoo, and the Betekints Valley. Along the atmospheric walking route there are bridges, medieval monastery ruins, playgrounds, and rest areas, making it an ideal program for families as well.

Veszprém Zoo

Veszprém Zoo is one of the largest and most popular zoos in the country. Numerous exotic animal species live on the multi-hectare site, and children can also enjoy a playhouse and a dinosaur park. It is an excellent choice for a full-day family program.

Benedek Hill and the Viaduct

Benedek Hill is one of the best panoramic points in the city. From here, the famous St. Stephen Valley Bridge is clearly visible, which locals simply call the Viaduct. The bridge is one of Veszprém’s best-known architectural sights and a symbol of the city.
