Surface parking will be free in Miskolc on October 23

Parking will be free on Friday, October 23, in the surface paid parking areas operated by Miskolci Városgazda Nonprofit Kft. According to information from Városgazda, the change does not apply to the underground car parks it listed or to the Régiposta Street car park: parking at these locations will remain subject to the usual charges. The parking customer service office at 20 Széchenyi István Street will be closed that day, but parking permits can be purchased online.

Where will parking be free?

The parking exemption applies on October 23 to the surface paid parking areas operated by Miskolci Városgazda Nonprofit Kft. If you park in one of these areas on Friday, you will not have to pay a parking fee that day, according to Városgazda. The notice distinguishes surface areas from underground car parks and the car park, so it is important to check which type of facility you are using when choosing where to park.

The notice does not name each surface parking area that will be free. What can be stated with certainty is that no fee will be charged on October 23 in the surface paid areas operated by Városgazda. The news does not mean that the same applies to every parking space in Miskolc: the notice limits the exemption to areas operated by a specific provider and to a specific type of parking area.

For drivers, then, it is not simply a matter of whether they are parking in Miskolc. The information about surface paid parking areas must be distinguished from the rules for the separately named facilities. Városgazda’s notice for October 23 makes precisely this distinction: parking will be free in the affected surface areas, while charges will still apply in the listed garages and car park.

Parking fees will apply in these garages and the car park

Parking fees will still apply on October 23 at the underground car parks in Europe Square, Patak Street and Heroes’ Square. The same applies to the car park on Régiposta Street. According to Városgazda, the usual rules apply at these locations, under which parking must be paid for every day, 24 hours a day. The exemption for surface areas therefore does not extend to these facilities.

If you choose one of the underground car parks mentioned above or the car park on Régiposta Street, expect to pay for parking on October 23 as well. The notice specifically lists these four locations and treats them separately from the surface paid parking areas. The information about parking rules does not imply that the exemption for surface parking also applies to covered parking facilities.

The distinction matters in practice when deciding where to park: waiting in a surface paid area operated by Városgazda will be free on October 23, whereas the usual rules will remain in effect in the named underground car parks and car park. The notice states that fees apply at these facilities every day, 24 hours a day, and does not indicate any exception for October 23.

The customer service office will be closed, but permits will be available online

The parking customer service office at 20 Széchenyi István Street will be closed on October 23. Városgazda also announced that parking permits can be purchased online during this time. The notice therefore gives both the closure of in-person services and the option to buy permits online; it is worth treating these two points separately.

If you want to buy a parking permit on October 23, you can do so online, according to the notice, but the customer service office at 20 Széchenyi István Street will not be open that day. The notice specifically mentions the online option in connection with purchasing parking permits. It does not provide information about handling other customer service matters on October 23.

In summary: parking will be free on October 23 in Miskolc’s surface paid parking areas operated by Városgazda. Parking fees will continue to apply at the underground car parks in Europe Square, Patak Street and Heroes’ Square, as well as at the car park on Régiposta Street. The customer service office will be closed, but permits can be purchased online.
