Parking zones in Budapest, the capital of Hungary
Budapest's parking system has changed from December 1, 2022. The aim of the new system is to replace the 27 waiting zones, which were previously difficult to see, to create a uniform parking structure. The following zones were created in the new system:
- Zone A : HUF 600/hour, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., maximum 3 hours.
- Zone B : HUF 450/hour, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., max. 3 hours.
- Zone C : HUF 300/hour, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., max. 3 hours.
- Zone D : HUF 200/hour, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., with no time limit.
The aim of the new system is to encourage motorists to choose public transport instead of kilometer-long traffic jams and hunting for parking spaces. The newly posted traffic and information signs make it much easier and faster for motorists to recognize the formation of the zones.
In the new system, parking fees and the maximum waiting time that can be spent there were also limited. It is not surprising that the conditions are very strict in the city center, while more favorable conditions can be found on the way out of the city. The rules and obligations apply to all passenger cars, three- or four-wheel mopeds, three- or four-wheel motorcycles, motorhomes, and trucks lighter than 3.5 tons.
In summary, the restructuring of Budapest's parking system aims to reduce traffic in the city and prioritize public transport. The new system makes parking rules simpler and more transparent.
