1. Egri Castle

Egri Castle is one of the best-known and most significant historical monuments in the country. During the Turkish siege in 1552, under the leadership of the castle captain István Dobó, the heroic stand of the Eger castle defenders prevented the advance of the Turkish army, which has been one of the most outstanding moments in Hungarian history ever since. Today, the castle houses the István Dobó Castle Museum, where you can learn about the history of the city and the castle through interactive exhibitions and a collection of weapons and armor.

2. Eger Basilica

The Egri Basilica, fully known as the Egri Cathedral, is the second largest church in Hungary. The building is a masterpiece of the classicist style, which was built between 1831 and 1837 based on the plans of József Hild. The huge, imposing interior and the wonderful frescoes all impress visitors. In front of the building is the equally remarkable Lyceum, which once served as a university center and today houses the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University.

3. Minaret

Parking in Eger

Parking hours in Eger are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Exceptions are the parking lots at Fürdő utca, Petőfi tér, Csákány utca and the Bitskey Aladár swimming pool, where you can park every day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. between May 1 and September 30. Parking fees vary by zone: HUF 480/hour in zone I, zone II. zone 360 ​​HUF/hour, while III. zone 320 HUF/hour or 1000 HUF/day. There is seasonal parking in the Szépasszony Valley, where the price for private cars is 300 HUF/hour between May 1 and September 30.
